Do you know “Our Heritage”? It’s the new game about climate change that aims to promote actions on time for preserving the planet.
Last year, we worked with 30 students from CETAV (“Technology and Visual Arts Center” in Costa Rica) developing 4 videogame prototypes in a 2 week Game Jam. All of them with one objective in mind: Draw consciousness on climate change.
The game takes place in the year 2050 in a regular apartment building, where temperatures are intense and erratic due to global warming. Help Amy, a sweet and optimistic little girl, explore her surroundings and complete her homework, while learning about the past and present of her family and world.
The prototype project was funded by the Franco-German Cultural Fund and is being developed by a partnership between Fair Play Labs and CETAV. Our hope is that through this game, we can increase awareness of the reality of climate change and its severe consequences, while supporting the videogame industry in Costa Rica.
CETAV is located at Parque La Libertad, which is an initiative of human security and social inclusion which aims to improve the quality of life of the surrounding communities through its economic, social and environmental development.
On November 20th, the prototype was shown at Parque La Libertad in presence of the France Embassy, German Embassy, CETAV, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Climate Change Office in Costa Rica and Fair Play Labs members; then the website and surrounding campaign was launched during the COP 21 (United Nations Conference on Climate Change) in Paris, France.
